Why Costa Rica

Spying golden beaches fringed by lush, thick jungle from his ship in 1502, Christopher Columbus felt there were no other words to describe this new land other than “Rich Coast”.  Despite lacking mountains of gold, silver, oil or other material riches, this tiny land has shown the rest of the world that peace is the greatest treasure of all.

The only country in the western hemisphere without an army, Costa Rica has been called the “Switzerland of the Americas” for its visionary belief that weapons and war are not the answer.

Blessed with an abundance of nature, this meeting place of the Americas is the most bio-diverse place on earth, accounting for 6% of the planet’s flora and fauna within a landmass that counts for only 0.01% of terra firma’s territory.

Thanks to far-signed governments, 26% of Costa Rica is protected in national parks, nature reserves, protected areas and private refuges, ensuring the preservation of these natural treasures for future generations to enjoy.

Costa Rica is located in Central America with Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, with the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea bordering the entire west and east coasts respectively.  Just 10 degrees from the Equator, the climate is surprisingly diverse, on account of the many mountain ranges running through the country but travelers should make sure, no matter where they are staying, to slather on the sunscreen.
