Arenal Observatory Lodge

Description: Set on a ridge 1.7 miles from Arenal Volcano, the lodge offers the adventurous traveler front row-seating for one of the world's most thrilling fireworks displays - a volcanic eruption. Arenal Volcano , which lay dormant for centuries, erupted in 1968 and has been continuously active ever since, making it one of the world's most explosive cones. Arenal Observatory Lodge was originally built in 1987 as a research station for scientists of the Smithsonian Institute. It is the only lodge within Arenal National Park and is protected from danger by a deep gorge of the Agua Caliente River.

Accommodation options:

Standard rooms: 9 standard rooms provide a rustic, yet comfortable base for your volcano viewing and rain forest activities. These rooms were originally designed and used by researchers.
